Tucked down a quiet laneway behind Murray Street, as part of Parliament Coworking, is our newly opened specialty coffee cart by Helios Coffee.

Open to the public seven days a week, everyone’s welcome to grab a seat among the green urban oasis we’ve created in the heart of Hobart.

From Forgotten Laneway to Urban Oasis

When we moved our coworking space into 107 Murray Street 18 months ago, the laneway was — frankly — a concrete dumping ground.

So we cleaned it up.
Then we started adding plants.
Then we secured a small grant and added more plants, along with a proper watering system.

Over time, the laneway became something else entirely: a small, green pocket of calm on the northern edge of Hobart’s CBD — where green space is few and far between. An urban oasis that feels like a Melbourne laneway… but better.

As winter turned to spring, one of our members — who runs Helios Coffee in Taroona — asked a simple question:

“Could I set up a coffee cart in the laneway?”

We’d always thought a café might work there one day.
But a cart felt better. Smaller. Slower. More casual.

So we said yes.

A Coffee Cart That Fits the Space (Not the Other Way Around)

Rather than forcing a full café into the laneway, the coffee cart lets the space breathe. It’s now a genuinely functional place — used by our coworking members throughout the day, and by locals and visitors who stumble across it looking for good coffee and somewhere pleasant to sit.

No rush.
No noise.
Just well-made coffee in a space designed to be enjoyed.

Open to Everyone — Not Just Coworkers

While the laneway is part of Parliament Coworking, the coffee cart and the laneway are open to the public.

Locals, coworkers, neighbours, passers-by — all welcome, seven days a week.

You don’t need a membership.
 You don’t need a laptop.
 Dogs and kids are welcome (whether you use a lead on one or both is entirely up to you).
